Anybody for shao kao? This is one of the best options for late night snacking in Chengdu. Hot and spicy barbecue skewers loaded with all sorts of meats ranging from pork, to beef, chicken, lamb, and organs. The fresh local vegetables are crisp and crunchy. Just watch out for the lettuce that seems to soak up an extra large dose of mouth searing spice powder. The varieties of smoked tofu are firm and flavorful. The bread (mantou) has an irresistible toasted crust surrounding the steamy bun. The chicken drumsticks are large and meaty, having all the flavors of the Sichuan countryside that they are raised on. The little restaurant pictured above became one of our favorites near the Traffic Hostel in Chengdu, Sichaun.
